In this case, the Studio was commissioned by clients to design a project for an apartment that would be a year round home to them during their usual getaways to this sea side city. They also wanted a decidedly marine theme for decoration. So the interior design took on a cozy, flexible and practical identity, where the undeniable bond with the sea – present both indoors and in the terrace-like balcony, was the guiding light for the whole project. A white box was chosen, with walls covered in lacquer wood paneling, and flooring consisting of Boticcino marble slabs or oak wood planks, depending on the room. The mobile furniture is reminiscent of typical beach house furnishings. A gray and blue palette draws the mood, together with natural textures, wood, and a collection of ocean themed pieces, like the wooden sculptures by Uruguayan artist Carlos Vignolo, which add flair to the combination. Situated over Playa Chica in Mar del Plata, Maral Explanada is the first residential development by César Pelli in South America.
